NACIC Partners City of Columbus on Youth Media and Communication Development
The New American Community Information Center, with the New Americans Press, is partnering with the City of Columbus Department of Neighborhood to equip students in K-12 with real-world skills in writing, reporting, ethics, and media literacy.
“This collaborative model, which is to ‘teach them young’ is not only educational but also empowering, giving students real-world exposure and a sense of purpose,” said Deba Uwadiae, Executive Director of the New American Community Information Center.
“The program is designed to empower K–12 students with foundational journalism skills, critical thinking, and ethical awareness, preparing them to become responsible and impactful writers, journalists and storytellers in the future.”
“Your project distinguished itself through its clear vision and its strong potential to positively
impact our vulnerable New American residents. We are truly excited to support your organization’s efforts to enhance the quality of life within our diverse Columbus community,” said Yakima J. Douglas, Director, Department of Neighborhood.
“We look forward to working with you and wish you continued success as you embark on this meaningful endeavor.”
Registration for the Youth Media and Communication Development program is expected to open on Monday, February 16, 2026.
